But, the competition is fierce and although the theory behind blogging is great, the reality can sometimes look different. So, how do you go about creating a blog that drives traffic to your website?
I’ve put together this quick-read guide to help you get some ideas on easy, and different ways to drive traffic to your blog.
1. Know your niche & your audience
Even within the cannabis and CBD industry, there are niches. Are you service or product based? Who is your target audience? Who are they and what do they look like / want / are interested in /etc.? The trick is then to make sure your blog content follows a clear theme with which those people can identify with and provides them with amazing information about your niche area. Creating buyer persona’s can be super helpful with this.

2. Get the right writer and it might not necessarily be you.
And definitely not a content farm. Really great content is at the heart of getting your blog noticed and driving lots of traffic to it. This means that if you are not a great writer, you should consider hiring a writer that is skilled, experienced and knowledgeable about your medical cannabis or CBD niche area.
3. Write more
It’s pretty simple and somewhat obvious but the more often you update your blog, the more traffic you will drive to it. Google and other search engines gives a higher priority to websites with fresh and newly updated content than those that don’t.
4. But focus on quality
Although it sound like a great plan to have daily blog updates, for most small to medium medical cannabis or CBD business, that is just not practical - especially not quality content. Updating your blog once week should do the job, IF you do it regularly, consistently and with quality content.
5. Quality content often includes long-form content
Studies show that long-form content (i.e., blog posts longer than 3,000 words) performs better than shorter form blogs. This is because articles high word counts can go into a lot of depth about a particular topic that provide a lot more value to your audience. Longer posts will also naturally be more keyword rich with a better chance of generating higher search engine rankings for long tail keyword searches.
6. Incorporate (long-tail) keywords
Speaking of Google, boosting search engine optimization (SEO) by including keywords, especially long-tail keywords is a sure-fire way of driving traffic to your blog. For each blog post you write, make sure to choose one key phrase that people will search for to find that post. To help you with this, the Google search bar’s prediction function can help give you some hints.
7. Don’t forget to add external (and internal) links
SEO experts agree that external links are the most important source of ranking power because search engines like Google view them as third-party votes (i.e., raking power) for your website.
8. Promote your posts on social media
This may seem obvious but if you don’t bother sharing each blog posts SEVERAL times, people will not know about it. And if you they don’t know about it, they won’t come. Also, don’t be afraid to re-post past content, or even ask other people to share your content. Sharing your own content and actively encouraging other to do so too, can easily become one of the most successful ways of driving traffic to your blog.
9. Also add social sharing buttons
This might be another “Thank you Captain Obvious” one, but don’t forget to add social sharing buttons to the top and/or bottom of your blog post so it’s easy for people that land on your blog to share your content with their social media networks.
10. Cross promote to your mailing list
Not everyone is checking in on your blog every week, so why not include your blog posts in your newsletters? It can be as simple as sharing the first paragraph of your blog post and including a button with a link underneath to drive traffic to your blog.
These are just 10 easy and different ways to drive traffic to your blog. Please let me know in the comments below which one’s you’ve tried and how it’s worked out for you.
